Writings by Young Adults We are lucky to have animals in our world by Keri, 11/23/03 My name is Keri. I am 13 years old. recently our 8 year old Schipperke died. Before he died, we had taken him to the vet several times, and they couldn't find out why our dog was in such respiratory distress. They took a culture and sent it off to a nearby University to find out what it was. Well, he died two days later. He couldn't breathe and his lungs were filled with blood and a fungus. He believe that this fungus was caused by our two pet ducks, which have a communicable disease to domestic pets. We got rid of the ducks about a day before our dog died. The Schipperke is a fairly unknown breed of dog. Anyone that saw him didn't know what breed he was. After he died, we decided to get another Schipperke, and try to help educate people on this breed. Now we have little Isabelle, a 15 week old Schipperke female. And the death of my best friend helped my realize how lucky we are to have animals in our world.
